AFCON 2021: Cameroon Records 1st Victory After Beating Burkina Faso

Cameroon, the host nation for the 2021 African Cups of Nations, has recorded their first tournament victory against Burkina Faso.

The match which kicked off today Sunday January 9, 2021 at 4:00 pm at the Olembe Stadium in Yaounde saw the indomitable lions of Cameroon defeat their opponent Burkina Faso in a 2-1 victory.

Burkina Faso had the first goal in the 24th minute of the first half of the match, and this was courtesy of midfielder Gustavo Sangaré.

But at the 40th minute of the match, Cameroon skipper Vincent Aboubakar scored a penalty for the lions which made the scores 1-1.

The former FC Porto striker in the 48 minutes before the first half was called to an end placed another pass Goal keeper Harve Koffi getting host Nation Cameroon to take the lead before the whistle was blown.

Burkina pushing through the second half couldn’t get them an equalizer as the match ended on a 2-1 victory against the Les Etalons.

Vincent Aboubakar, making his 9th appearance at AFCON 2021, was awarded the man of the match for Group A first tournament.
