How to become a Military Doctor in Ghana

Military Doctors are health professionals who attend to the health needs of Men and women serving in the Military.

But a Military Doctor in Ghana does not respond only to the health needs of Military men and women but their spouses and the general populace as well. Why do I say this?

An example is when you visit the 37 Military Hospital in the Accra. What one will observe is to see military Doctors, Military Nurses and the others in uniforms attending to the militants and their spouses and the general public as well.

Military Doctors are mostly referred to as Military Physicians and for all qualified Ghanaian who wants to become a military doctor in Ghana, these requirements will guide you.

How do I become a Military Doctor in Ghana?

You need to check which Medical category you a call under and checkout the requirements as provided below.

This is as follows;

MEDICAL

In addition to the general eligibility (…insert..link here) , applicants must have a degree in any of the following from a recognized University or equivalent Professional institution.

  • Medical and Dental Specialists

Applicants must have MB ChB/BDS degree or it’s equivalent from an accredited Institution plus a relevant postgraduate qualification to the level of Membership/Followership or its equivalent from an accredited college. Applicants must have a permanent registration with the Medical and Dental Council (Ghana) and be in good standing. Applicant must not be more than 40 years by 02 May 2021.

  • Medical Officers and Dental Surgeons

Applicants must have MB ChB/BDS degree or it’s equivalent from an accredited Institution. He/she must also have a permanent registration with the Medical and Dental Council (Ghana) with at least one (1) year working experience in a recognized health facility post- permanent registration and be in a good standing. Applicants must not be more than 35 years by 02 May 2021.

  • Nursing Tutors

Applicants must have either MPhil in Nursing/Midwifery or MSc/MA in Nursing/Midwifery with a post graduate Certificate in Education and must be registered with the Nursing & Midwifery Council of Ghana and be in good standing, with at least, one (1) year teaching experience post-permanent registration in an accredited Nursing/Midwifery institution. Applicants must not be more than 35 years by 02 May, 2021

  • Specialized Nurses

Applicants must have a BSc Degree in any of the following specialities:

Critical Care, ENT, Peri-Operative, Emergency Care, Plastics & Burns, Paediatrics, Ophthalmic Nursing, Nephrology Nursing and other specialities with at least one (1) year working experience post-permanent registration in a recognized health facility. Applicants must be in good standing with the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Ghana. Applicants must not be more than 33 years by 02 May 2021.

  • Midwifery Officers

Applicants must have either a:

i. BSc degree in Midwifery from an accredited Institution with at least two years practice post-permanent registration or

ii. BSc degree in Midwifery (RM) from an accredited institution and a Diploma in Midwifery (RM) with at least one (1) year practice post-permanent registration. All must be in a good standing with the Nursing & Midwifery Council of Ghana.

  • Pharmacies

Applicants must have a degree in Pharmacy (B Pharm) or (Pharm D) from an accredited institution and should have practiced for at least one (1) year post-permanent registration as a Pharmacist. He/she must be in good standing with the Pharmacy Council, Ghana. Applicants must not be more that 33 years by 02 May 2021.

  • Radiographers

Applicants must have a BSc Degree in Radiography and should have practiced for at least one (1) year post-permanent registration as a Radiographer. One must be in a good standing with the Allied Health Professions Council. He/she must not be more than 30 years by 02 May 2021.

  • Occupational Therapists

Applicants must have a BSc degree in Occupational Therapy and should have practiced for at least one (1) year post-permanent registration as an Occupational Therapist. One must be in a good standing with the Allied Health Professions Council. He or she must not be more than 30 years by 02 May 2021.

  • Health Service Administrators

Applicants must have BSc degree in Administration (Health services option) from an accredited institution and must have completed the mandatory National Service. He/she should also have at least one (1) year working experience post-national service as a Health services Administrator. Applicants must not be more than 28 years by 02 May 2021.

  • Audiologists

Applicants must have an MSc Degree in Audiology with at least one (1) year working experience post-permanent registration as an Audiologist. He/she must be in good standing with the Allied Health Professions Council. Applicants must not be more than 33 years by 02 May 2024.

  • Physician Assistants (Medical)

Applicants must have either a:

i. BSc degree in Physician Assistantship from an accredited institution with at least two (2) years working experience post-permanent registration or

ii. BSc degree in Physician Assistantship with advanced Diploma in Community Medicine and Health with at least one (1) year working experience post-permanent registration. All must be in good standing with the Medical and Dental Council (Ghana). Applicants must not be more than 33 years by 02 May 2021.

  • Clinical Psychologists

Applicants must have an MPhil/MSc Clinical Psychology degree from an accredited institution plus two (2) years working experience in a recognized institution as a Clinical Psychologist post-permanent registration with the Ghana Psychological Council and be in a good standing. Applicants must not be more than 35 years by 02 May 2021.

  • Respiratory Therapists

Applicants must have a BSc degree I Respiratory Therapy plus at least one (1) year working experience post-permanent registration in a recognized Health facility. One must be in a good standing with the Allied Health Professions Council. He/she must not be more than 30 years by 02 May 2021.

  • Sonographers

Applicants must have a BSc degree in Sonography plus at least one (1) year working experience post-permanent registration as a Sonographer. He/she must be in a good standing with the Allied Health Professions Council. One must not be more than 30 years by 02 May 2021.

  • Biomedical Scientists

Applicants must have a BSc degree in Medical Laboratory Science/BSc Medical Laboratory Technology from an accredited institution plus at least one (1) year working experience as a Biomedical Scientist in a Medical Laboratory Facility. One must be in a good standing with the Allied Health Professions Council. He/she must not be more than 30 years by 02 May 2021.

  • Certificate Registered Anaesthetists (CRA)

Applicant must have either a:

i. BSc degree in Anesthesia from an accredited institution with at least two (2) years working experience post-permanent registration or

ii. BSc degree in Anaesthesia with Advanced Diploma in Nurse Anaesthesia with at least one (1) year working experience post-permanent registration. All must be in a good standing with the Medical and Dental Council (Ghana). Applicants must not be more than 33 years by 02 May 2021.
