How To Become A Military Nurse In Ghana

Nurses are in the military too and they are most referred to as Military Nurses. There are quite a number of roles and duties played by military Nurses in Ghana. They can mostly be found in a Military Hospital providing health care.

What does a military nurse do?

In Ghana, Military Nurses are found the military hospitals and they provide basic health care to military men and women in the service.

In addition, they extend a helping hand in health care to retired soldiers, soldiers and their wives & husband and the general public who visit the military hospital in Ghana.

How to become a Military Nurse in Ghana?

Since its about the military, a military Nurse goes through the same physical Ghana Armed Forces Training and are then given more insights about the military Nurse profession they are trying to pursue.

To get the chance to become is Nurse in the Military. Below are the Military Nurse Requirements by the Ghana Armed Forces.

General Eligibility
  • Must be a Ghanaian citizen by birth.
  • Be of a good character.
  • Not less than 20 years and not more than 26 years by 06 June 2021, for regular commission and not more than 30 years by 02 May 2021, for short service commission.
  • Be medically fit by Ghana Armed. Forces Standards.
  • Not Bonded.
  • Not married (for Regular Officer Candidates Only).
  • Be of minimum height of 1.60m (5’4″) for females.

Must have the following:

i. BECE, Six (6) Credit at BECE, including English, and Mathematics.

ii. WASSCE, Six (6) Credit (not less than C6) , Including Core English and Core Mathematics.

OR

iii. SSSCE, Six (6) Credits (not less than D) , Including Core English and Core Mathematics.

OR

iv. GCE ‘O’ & ‘A’ Level, Five (5) Credits (not less than 6) , Including English and Mathematics at GCE ‘O’ Level and not less than D in two subjects and General Paper at GCE ‘A’ Level.

Military Nurse Requirements

i. Nursing Tutors

Applicants must have either MPhil in Nursing/Midwifery or MSc/MA in Nursing/Midwifery with a post graduate Certificate in Education and must be registered with the Nursing & Midwifery Council of Ghana and be in good standing, with at least, one (1) year teaching experience post-permanent registration in an accredited Nursing/Midwifery institution. Applicants must not be more than 35 years by 02 May, 2021.

ii. Specialised Nurses

Applicants must have a BSc Degree in any of the following specialities:

Critical Care, ENT, Peri-Operative, Emergency Care, Plastics & Burns, Paediatrics, Ophthalmic Nursing, Nephrology Nursing and other specialities with at least one (1) year working experience post-permanent registration in a recognized health facility. Applicants must be in good standing with the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Ghana. Applicants must not be more than 33 years by 02 May 2021.

iii. For Midwifery Officers Applicants

Must have either:

i. BSc degree in Midwifery from an accredited Institution with at least two years practice post-permanent registration or

ii. BSc degree in Midwifery (RM) from an accredited institution and a Diploma in Midwifery (RM) with at least one (1) year practice post-permanent registration. All must be in a good standing with the Nursing & Midwifery Council of Ghana.
