James Lutterodt Biography

James Lutterodt is an alumnus of Keta Senior High Technical School (KSTS) located in the Volta Region of Ghana. He was among the three contestants who represented Ketasco in the 2021 National Science and Maths Quiz competition and helped the school reach the finals.

Early Life & Family Background

James Lutterodt was born on May 25, 2004, in Keta in the Volta Region of Ghana. He was born to Mr. Philip Dogbeda K. Lutterodt and Madam Lucy Tetteh. However, he spent his early life in Bethlehem, a suburb of Accra. He was the fifth child of his parents and had six siblings: four brothers and two sisters. James was from Vui, a locality in Keta in the Volta Region of Ghana.

Educational Background

Lutterodt received his primary and junior high education at Newland Schools in Ashaiman. He proceeded to Keta Senior High Technical School for his high school education. He wrote the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) when he was still in JHS 2 and excelled after the results were released, which earned him admission into Keta Senior High Technical School.

2021 NSMQ Journey

In 2008, while in Junior High School, watching a contest between Adisadel College and two other schools sparked a passion in James Edem Kobla Lutterodt to become a contestant in the annual National Science and Maths Quiz competition. Therefore, after gaining admission to Keta Senior High School, he decided to do Science.

Throughout Edem’s first year in SHS, he did well academically, and in SHS 2, he sat for the NOV/DEC Examination and excelled as he did in the BECE. Though Lutterodt would have gained admission into the University with his NOV/DEC results, he wanted to complete SHS before enrolling in the University.

However, due to his outstanding academic performance in school, he was selected to join the Ketasco NSMQ team. James represented his school, Ketasco, with two of his mates, Francisca Lamini and Bright Senyo Gadzo, in the 2021 NSMQ, and the trio made their school proud by helping them reach the competition.

At the 2021 National Science and Maths Quiz finals, their school, Ketasco, met Presec and Prempeh College, and they finished third. Following the competition, James Lutterodt enrolled in the University of Ghana, Legon, and was studying Computer Science. He revealed on Kofi TV that he wanted to become a computer scientist.

While at Legon, James took the SAT Examination in 2021 and achieved good results. The following year, he retook the SAT Exams and earned a full scholarship to study at Howard University in the United States. However, with a few weeks left for Lutterodt to travel to the States to further his education, he was reported dead when he was still at Level 200 at the University of Ghana.

Death

James Lutterodt died on July 3, 2022. According to confirmed sources, he felt ill while he was in school and was sent to a specialist hospital in Tema, Accra, to receive treatment, but unfortunately, he gave up the ghost on his hospital bed.

Funeral

On September 8, 2023, a pre-burial ceremony was held for the late James Edem Kobla Lutterodt at the Community Centre, Community 1 – Tema, and his final funeral rites took place at the Keta Senior High Technical School Park on September 9, 2023. He was laid to rest at the Vui Government Cemetery in the Volta Region of Ghana.
