How To Become A Soldier In Ghana

At first, an individual could become a soldier in Ghana just by their physical stature and appearance. Afterward, they get picked, trained, and recruited to become soldiers in Ghana.

Well, things have changed in recent times. To qualify to become a soldier is based on educational background and certificate available. Also, one must purchase a form at a fee and make sure they meet the verified requirements of becoming a soldier in Ghana.

Is soldier training difficult?

People always have their own perceptions about something they haven’t involved themselves physically in. So, answering the question, is soldier training difficult, you must be free of health problems. When you are physically fit for the job, there’s no need to worry, you are good to go.

There are important requirements that one has to meet in order to become a soldier in Ghana. Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) opens its door to senior high school graduates and graduates from any recognized Tertiary institutions in Ghana. Original Documents like the B.E.C.E. Certificate, WASSCE Certificate, and certificate from a recognized tertiary institution are all vital when applying to become a soldier in Ghana.

General requirements to become a Soldier in Ghana:

  • First, be a Ghanaian Citizen (By Birth).
  • Second, individuals should have good behavior.
  • Third, the age requirement for regular commission is not less than 20 years old and not more than 26 years by the recruiting year.
  • Next, individuals must be medically fit according to GAF standards.
  • Not bonded.
  • Regular officer candidates only: Should not be married.
  • Height: Be of a minimum height of 1.68m(5’6″) for males and for females 1.60m(5’4″).

Note: Military Police only: Minimum height 1.75m(5’9″) for males and 1.70m(5″7) for females.

Academic requirements

  • Six Credits (C’s) at B.E.C.E which should include Core Maths and Core English.
  • Six Credits (Not less than C6) in WASSCE including Core Maths and Core English.

Or

  • SSSCE: Six Credits (Not less than D), including Core English and Core Maths.
  • GCE “O” and “A” Levels. Five Credits( Not less than 6), including Mathematics and English at GCE “O” Level and not less than D in two subjects and General Paper at GCE “A” Level.
For Regular Officer Candidates
    1. Infantry/Armour/Artillery: To add to the general eligibility, applicants must possess a First Degree not less than Second Class Lower from a recognized University.
    2. Signal Corps: To add to the general eligibility, applicants must possess a First Degree not less than Second Class Lower from a recognized University/Institution in the following;

In addition to the General Eligibility applicants must have a First Degree not less than Second Class Upper from a recognized University or institution in any of the following;
